Empowering high schools to support injured athletes
My Story
Hi, I’m Max. I’m a high school student from New York. Playing sports is one of my favorite things to do. In 2021, during a basketball game, I suffered a serious knee injury that required surgery and put me out of action for eight months.
During my recovery, I struggled with my mental health. I found it frustrating to not participate in games, and I had physical therapy three or four times a week which ate up my time and restricted my social activities. I also worried about the lasting impacts of my injury.
Just going to school was a struggle. Walking through crowded hallways on crutches made getting to class a challenge. I noticed others experiencing the same. Whether it was someone struggling to carry a backpack because their arm was in a sling, or getting bumped into by other students causing them excruciating pain, I felt there had to be a better way.
I was motivated to create this website to share information, experiences, and resources. I’ve also designed a playbook to show schools that there’s a lot more they can do.
